French influence in Luang Prabang

Have spent the day walking round Luang Prabang. Usual pagodas and wats but considerably fewer than anywhere in Burma. A great deal of French influence in the architecture which makes a refreshing change from the modern glass towers versus tumbling down basic shacks of many of the places I've visited recently. Tonight we have a 'treat' (well several in the group think it's a treat) in that we're being fed by a local family. My concern is that you usually have to sit on the floor so it might be a bit of a struggle for me to get down, and even more so to get up! Could be amusing!

Leaving first thing tomorrow morning for Vientiane. Have looked at many photos here and it seems to be a lovely city. It's been wonderful being settled in this hotel for 3 nights, gives you a chance to get organised and do your washing! If it's not Vientiane tomorrow then it's Vang Vieng. Whichever it is involves a 7 hour bus journey via some winding roads so I wonder how many of us will survive the trip intact!

Also went to the elephant sanctuary - photos below!
